What is an Enterostomal Therapist?

An Enterostomal Therapist is a Certified Wound, Ostomy, and Continence (CWOCN) professional, formally known as an (ET) nurse. This certification is obtained through the Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing Society (WOCN). The certification examination must be retaken every five years. (CWOCN) ET nurses specialize in the care of patients with selected disorders of the gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and integumentary systems.

Wound Program

Pressure Ulcer Risk Assessments are performed on all patients admitted to Aria Home Health, Inc. followed by the appropriate interventions and patient/caregiver instructions.

Certified WOC nurses consult and oversee the care of patients with:

  • Pressure Ulcers
  • Partial and Full Thickness Wounds
  • Arterial, Venous, Diabetic and Neuropathic Ulcers
  • Drainage control and skin care for patients with wounds and Fistulas

Percutaneous Tubes

Peritubular tissue breakdown from leakage
Exterior stabilization of tubes and drains as needed when leakage occurs

Ostomy Program

Provides pre-operative marking, post-operative care and instruction, for patients facing Colostomy, Ileostomy, Urostomy, or Continent Diversion surgery.

Patient and Caregiver Education: Patients with ostomies need specialized assessment and instruction related to the skin, stoma management, function, diet, hydration, and lifestyle issues.
